When you show up at a customer’s home, you work hard to present yourself as a qualified technician that can perform the task that the customer is going to eventually pay to have completed. Why would you work so hard for a good first impression when you are going to leave a sour taste by leaving a handwritten invoice? That’s like telling your customer that you aren’t a “real business.”

The main benefit of flat rate is simple: you charge a single fee for a service and this gives the customer price certainty and eliminates a major objection (and fear) the customer has: "I don't know what this will cost". For many owners, the move to flat rate pricing can be a scary prospect. The fear of underbidding a job and not being able to bill for the overage in time (and in some cases, materials) is understandable. But continuing to bill hourly for work is probably hurting your business more than you realize.
